Hit and run suspect still on the loose
April 29, 2021
Police are still looking for a man involved in a hit and run on April 21.
Around 4:30 p.m., Dave Peters was driving on Beach Road when a motorist in a dark-colored truck ran the stop sign on Front Street. In a Tuesday press release, police said the truck is thought to be a late 1990s to mid-2000s Chevy.
"The guy running the stop sign plowed right into the side of my car," said Peters, whose green Subaru ended up 10 feet below the road, by the picnic table near the fishermen's memorial.
"He stopped, asked if I was okay, said he was going to go call to get his insurance information and then never came back," Peters said.
He said he doesn't remember much about the other motorist. "I was kind of in shock. My car was very messed up and so was the front of his truck."
Peters said his insurance will cover repairs, but he hopes the police are able to track down the man involved. "He needs to pay. That's how I feel about it," he said.
Police chief Heath Scott, who was dispatched to respond to the accident, said Peters described the man as "a white male cleanly shaved twenty to thirty years of age."
The police sent out a Nixle alert the same day, asking community members to be on the lookout for a blue pick-up truck with front end damage. Police responded to a report of a vehicle fitting the description traveling on Small Tracks Road last week, but as of Tuesday, police had yet to track down the truck or the driver.
