American Bald Eagle Foundation intern Jessica Holman gives a presentation using Hunter, a barred owl, at the Rainbow Glacier Camp Tuesday. Holman and intern Rhett LaPorte, who showed off a red-tailed hawk named Sitka, spoke to a crowd of 42 campers. Both raptors have resided at the ABEF for about three years and are used daily for educational programs about live birds. The foundation’s raptor internship program sponsors four to six college student interns annually. All interns must complete a minimum of 500 raptor hours in order to graduate and be certified by the foundation. 2013 marks the 14th year of internships. This summer’s program will bring the total number of program graduates to 52.
