The family of lifelong Haines resident Charles Brouillette would like to express our gratitude to the Haines SEARHC clinic and Haines volunteer ambulance crew for the thoughtful care they provided to our Papa over the last couple of years. You made a difficult time easier to manage.

We could not have gotten through the weeks following the loss of our father, grandfather and uncle without the support of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, Chilkoot Indian Association, Evangeline Willard-Hoy, Tom Matthes, Jessie Badger, Frankie Jones, Nancy Coleman, Terry Pardee, Pat Murphy, and Fr. Jim Blaney. 

  Our Papa was an interesting man. Those who knew him knew that he was a kind and humble man. They might not know that his father’s ancestry included Joan of Arc, or that his grandmother was the niece of famous medicine man Skundoo, and she would canoe from Haines to Juneau to work as a federal court interpreter.  

Papa was well educated and well read, he recycled and composted before it was trendy, he loved animals, and he loved the Chilkat Valley and appreciated the quiet lifestyle Haines provided.

The most important lesson we learned from him is to treat each other with compassion and respect, regardless of our perceived social standing. In these turbulent times, it is a lesson worth remembering.
