Candidates for KHNS board few
October 14, 2010
With the Oct. 14 deadline only two days away, only one candidate had filed as of Tuesday for four seats open on the KHNS board of directors as of Tuesday.
Incumbent Rita Brouillette has filed for re-election to her three-year seat. Three-year seats currently held by Skagway residents Randy Wiley and Deb Potter also are up in the election, as is a one-year seat created by the resignation of former board member John Binger.
Georgia Giacobbe, the station’s business manager and interim co-manager, said she’ll consult with board members on how to proceed if candidates don’t come forward. The deadline for self-nomination has passed. The Oct. 14 deadline is for candidates nominated by board members.
"We are working with our by-laws on how to do our ballots, which hasn’t been finalized yet," Giacobbe said Tuesday. Seated board members include Haines residents Russ Bowman, Eric Kocher, Sarah Cohen.
Ballots were to be mailed to members this week. They must be returned to the station by 5 p.m. Oct. 22, or brought in-person to the station’s annual membership meeting, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in Chilkat Center lobby.
Thirteen applications have been received for the station’s manager position. The board hasn’t set a hiring date.
