Heli-ski group

October 28, 2010

The Haines Borough Assembly Tuesday did not move forward a proposed commercial skiing tour ordinance that drew heavy discussion at its first public hearing Tuesday.

Discussion centered on helicopter skiing, skier days and flight paths. The assembly instead directed manager Mark Earnest and Mayor Jan Hill to form a work group to update the details of the ordinance before it is brought back to the entire assembly.

Hill said the "balanced" work group would include assembly members, industry representatives and residents who have voiced opposition to heli-skiing.
