Monday, May 23
A caller requested a welfare check on an individual they had not heard from in a week. An officer responded and found no one at home. A dispatcher called the ferry terminal and was told the individual left on a ferry a couple days earlier and would not be home until early June.
A caller reported a person who would not get off their Deishu-area property and was arguing with another person at the residence. An officer responded and found that the individual had left.
A caller reported children playing on a boat at a downtown storage unit. The children told a responding officer that it was their friend’s boat. The officer told them they needed to have the owner of the boat present the next time they wished to board it.
Sunday, May 22
A person reported a red plastic fuel tank with about four gallons of fuel had been taken off their boat at the harbor.
A caller requested assistance contacting the Haines Animal Rescue Kennel for a cat that needed to be euthanized.
Saturday, May 21
A caller reported a dog was locked in a car at a downtown parking lot and had been barking for two hours. An officer responded and contacted the owner, who moved the vehicle.
A caller from the Cathedral View area reported being awakened by loud helicopters late at night for two consecutive nights.
A caller reported a woman at a downtown business acting strangely, and the caller was concerned about her driving. An officer responded, and the woman had made it home safely.
A caller reported a carcass in the river at the Four Mile Haines Highway that eagles were eating. Troopers were advised and found the remains of a harvested bear.
Friday, May 20
A person reported a mother moose and calves were at the school and classes would be starting soon. Police, state troopers and borough public works responded and moved the moose off to a safe spot until the calves would be strong enough to go outside town.
A caller reported two individuals went out on a boat to check shrimp pots late at night and hadn’t been heard from. An officer contacted the two individuals, who had landed their boat between the Port Chilkoot Dock and the boat harbor due to a dead battery.
A downtown bar requested help bouncing a person. An officer responded and persuaded the individual to go home.
Thursday, May 19
A caller reported a tire on their car parked downtown was flat and appeared to be slashed. An officer responded, took pictures and initiated a case.
A caller reported their boyfriend had taken the keys to their car and thrown them. The caller was worried about not being able to find them. The caller advised police about an hour later that she found the keys locked in her vehicle. A dispatcher told the caller where to call in the morning to unlock the car.
A borough worker reported a bathroom door at Tlingit Park had been damaged. An officer responded.
A caller reported a domestic dispute in Klukwan between a grandmother and granddaughter. A state trooper responded and found everything okay.
A caller reported a moose with two newborn calves in front of the school that were causing concern for people trying to enter and exit. An officer responded and provided security until everyone had left the school. The moose bedded down in the grassy area next to the gym for the night.
Wednesday, May 18
A caller reported someone was threatening to kill rabbits in the Deishu area. The caller said they already had talked to the Haines Animal Rescue Kennel.
A caller reported a motorized tricycle driving up and down Main Street and playing loud music about every five minutes the previous hour. An officer asked the offender to keep the music turned down at night.
Tuesday, May 17
A caller stated the padlock had been removed from their house in the Beach Road area while they were on vacation, but they were not sure any items were missing. An officer was advised and initiated a case.
There were eight medical calls and seven calls about dogs.
