Hershey meet draws 80 youngsters
June 9, 2011
The Hershey Track Meet, an elementary school classic for students age nine to 14, had about 80 Haines students participate, said physical education teacher Ray Chapin. The event is held on the last day of classes, thanks to the help of dozens of volunteers.
There were no records set this year but Haines students may have topped other schools around the state in some of the events.
"We’ll probably have some very high finishers in the state competition," he said.
The girls’ age 11-12 4x100 relay team took first last year among state competitors and Chapin said they have a good chance of repeating that this year. The team is Makayla Crager, Tulsi Zahnow, Madison Chapin and Grace Lambert.
Statewide results won’t be released for several weeks, Chapin said. And he doesn’t hear how students ranked among the region unless an individual or team ranks high enough in the standings to net a trip to Hershey, Pa., for the national meet.
Other first place finishers from the meet include: Brandon Allen, Manny Hansen, Caleb Franks, Mathew Earnest, Kadin Doddridge, Mark Davis, Izak Miller, Dylan Chapell, Raine Wing, Marirose Evenden, Natalie Humphrey-Kauffman, Lindy Hill, Atlin Zahnow, Lydia Andriesen, Mandalyn Gala, Seth Diggins, Dylan Swinton, Jacob Stigen, James Willard, Marty Fowler, Parker Blair, Madison Chapin, Lyric Wiggins, Brittney Bradford, Shaye Otton, Mori Hays, Kai Hays, Dylan Palmieri, Matthew Green, Dawson Evenden, Alexandria Chapin, Kayley Swinton, Destinee Cowart, Jenae Larson, Zayla Asquith-Heinz, Natalia Taylor and Jennie Humphrey.
