KHNS to add 2 reporters
October 6, 2011
KHNS will add two reporting positions in a staff expansion made possible by grants and increased fund-raising in the past year.
Adam Richards, chef at a local restaurant, has been hired as assistant news director in Haines and will work 12 hours per week. Adams has a management background, great curiosity and computer skills, said station manager Kay Clements.
Using a $10,000 grant from Skagway Borough, the station will seek a 12-hour per week reporting position in Skagway. "We’re looking for a reporter, preferably a Skagway resident. We’ve got a couple people we’re talking to," Clements said.
Amelia Nash, former development director, was hired Oct. 19 as program director.
Steve Scarrott, a former program director, was hired as chief of operations in mid-September.
The station will put a new console in its main studio and buy new microphones and headphones with a $14,000 equipment grant from the Rasmuson Foundation.
The station’s annual membership meeting is Oct. 28. To vote in the election, membership renewals are due by Sept. 30. Two seats are open on the Lynn Canal Broadcasting board of directors.
