Strumming a 1941 Gibson guitar, Fairbanks musician Earl Hughes played an impromptu solo concert in the Captain’s Choice Motel lounge Monday morning. Hughes has been dubbed “Alaska’s Ambassador of Country Music” by Alaska governors. He toured eight years as pedal steel guitar player for Hawaii’s legendary Don Ho. He plays guitar, fiddle, banjo and pedal steel guitar. His recent visit was his first to Haines after 30 years in the state.
