Milinda May, a Haines landowner and former resident, was on the deck of the ferry Matanuska when it crashed into the Ocean Beauty cannery while attempting to dock in Petersburg at 1:15 p.m. Monday. “He just went straight in. We T-boned it. It looked like nobody was paying attention,” May said. No mention of the crash was made by crew to passengers, May said. A Coast Guard dock lies between the cannery and the ferry dock.
