Members of the upper Lynn Canal Advisory Committee to the state boards of fish and wildlife on Friday elected seated members Randy Jackson and Tim McDonough. The committee also chose officers, including McDonough as chair, Jackson as vice-chair and Al Gilliam as secretary.

The group expressed concerns about planning for a bear-viewing platform along Chilkoot River and specifically a proposal that would eliminate sport fishing in front of the platform.

Members’ concerns included protection of subsistence and sport fishing rights and parking. Ideas included a sportfish priority for residents, timed closures, or limiting closures to times when the fish weir is operating.

McDonough said he would compile a list of concerns to be approved by members before the group made an official recommendation.

The group did not set a date for its next meeting. Residents Julia Heinz and George Campbell expressed interest in seeking election to the advisory group during regular elections in December.

The advisory committee makes recommendations to the state on fish and game regulations.
