The board of Haines Assisted Living honored Lucy Harrell, at right, with a portrait of Harrell in the wheelhouse of her Nordic Tug, Whisker III. A boat captain and airplane pilot, Harrell donated more than $1 milllion in cash and property to make the HAL residence a reality. “It boils down to it just wouldn’t have happened without Lucy -- at least not for another 10 or 15 years,” said administrator Vince Hansen. “ She had the vision and she followed through with the work and the resources.” The portrait will be mounted at HAL.
