Former resident Kathrine Ann Jimmie died Feb. 28 in Pullman, Wash. She was 66 and had been suffering from a heart condition for about a year, said husband Ron Jimmie.

Kathrine was the oldest of six daughters of Victor and Dorothy Kuster. She was born Jan. 20, 1947 in Salina, Kansas, and lived in Idaho and New York before coming north when her father’s Air Force career took him to Elmendorf air base in 1959.

Her family lived in Anchorage and Eagle River. Kathrine attended Clark Junior High School and later worked as a cook and exotic dancer in Anchorage. She lived in Las Vegas and California and held jobs including being a prison guard in Chino, Calif., family members said. “Kathy experienced life to the fullest,” said sister Jo Wooten of Washington.

Kathrine met Ron Jimmie in Anchorage in the early 1990s. They lived in Haines about five years, where she worked at the Captain’s Choice Motel and was known for her schnauzers “Duke” and “Whiskers.” Ron Jimmie said his wife enjoyed walks on the beach here and drives out to 33 Mile. She made crafts like stained glass and candles and was a talented cook who learned from Lillian Hammond how to put up fish, her husband said.

“She was happy. She liked to do crafts like sewing and making stuff. She liked cooking chicken Adobo or fried fish,” and enjoyed hosting big gatherings of family and friends, Jimmie said.

Wooten said her sister was a breast cancer survivor whose heart condition may have been due to chemotherapy treatments.

A private memorial service was held in Washington state.

Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving family members include Ron Jimmie of Pullman, Wash., sisters Jo Wooten, Gretta Kuster, Patsy Sossaman, Jan Pfister, and Kristen Destry, all of Washington state; and by daughters Lynne Tull of Fayetteville, N.C., Amy Visgar of Los Angeles, and Joclyn Brown of Dallas.
