Monday is the deadline for the public to comment on a five-year land use permit application which would authorize Alaska Mountain Guides (AMG) to conduct guided recreation tours on state lands in the Haines Borough and Haines State Forest.  

The Department of Natural Resources Division of Mining, Land and Water permit would authorize AMG to conduct guided skiing, ice climbing, rock climbing, mountaineering, snowshoeing, trekking, kayaking, rafting, hiking, and first aid instruction in eight areas.

AMG operations manager Zach Tarleton said the company has been permitted to operate in the areas in the past, although actual use has been limited.
