Disc golf to teach physics
The Haines Borough Public Library will be hosting free disc golf lessons where kids will not only learn the rules of the game, but the physics behind it.
Local disc golf experts will be assisting during the lessons, which will include rules of the course, throwing discs at targets and experiments that will teach kids the physics behind the perfect throw.
“We’ve put together these contraptions that will give kids the opportunity to feel the dynamics of a spinning disc,” said co-coordinator Erik Stevens. “It’s a cool experiment that they will get to partake in, not just watch.”
Lessons will start at 3:30 p.m. on the field behind the library on Tuesday. Lessons are for kids ages 10 and older.
Discs will be provided by Mike’s Bikes and Boards.
“Hopefully, a good amount of kids will be interested and come participate,” said co-coordinator Jessie Morgan. “It’s something fun to do and we’ll get to throw some cool science into it, as well.”
