Safety first for Haines Highway plan

I would like to thank Matt Boron for his letter in the paper supporting the need for upgrading the Haines Highway. I think Matt has stated very clearly why this highway needs an upgrade sooner, not later. It seems there is a group of individuals who are trying to deter this project, stating that it would have an adverse effect on the fish and eagles. When, in reality, all they are trying to do is stop any kind of development that an improved road might bring to our valley. From a standpoint of a frequent user of the Haines Highway, safety of our highway users should be our No. 1 concern. Let’s get this project moving forward. I am sure the state has no intentions of harming any fish or wildlife.
