Monday, May 12

A Haines resident reported the amount on a check they had written was changed. Police initiated a case for forgery.

A caller reported a dog had jumped on a vehicle parked on Dolphin Street, damaging and scratching it. A report was filed.

A caller reported people camping at Carr’s Cove, but was told camping there is legal.

Sunday, May 11

Troopers asked dispatch for help arranging travel from Juneau to Haines.

A caller reported losing property on Second Avenue, but later called back to report it found.

A person on the Battery Point Trail asked for help from the Haines Animal Rescue Kennel pulling porcupine quills from a dog. HARK was advised.

A downtown apartment resident reported a person’s dog had run away. HARK was advised.

Saturday, May 10

A caller reported hearing two men yelling at each other on Front Street. Officers responded and issued a warning for disorderly conduct.

A caller asked for help contacting the harbormaster.

A person reported heavy machinery hit power lines in the Fourth Avenue area, causing a localized power outage. Police, fire, and Alaska Power and Telephone responded.

A caller reported her dog had run away.

A person reported finding a tagged bear hide in the area of Jones Point Road. The park ranger responded and collected the bear hide. Troopers were advised.

Friday, May 9

A borough employee reported someone had vandalized the Visitor Center restrooms by putting dirt in the urinals.

A Second Avenue business owner reported damages to the building’s railing and post that occurred during the winter. Investigation continues.

A caller reported a person driving under the influence near the intersection of Haines Highway and Sawmill Road. An officer patrolled the area but didn’t find the vehicle.

A person reported horses loose on Small Tracts Road. The responsible party was advised.

A caller reported a sinkhole near 18 Mile Haines Highway. State road crews were advised.

A caller reported gunshots in the 8 Mile Haines Highway area. Troopers were advised.

A traffic stop resulted in a warning for speeding.

Thursday, May 8

Police responded to a domestic dispute on Mud Bay Road but determined violence and threats hadn’t occurred and the situation was peacefully resolved.

A 911 caller reported a house fire on Oslund Drive. Fire crews responded.

A caller reported lost property in the Main Street area.

A person asked police to perform a welfare check on an out-of-town man staying at a local motel. Officers responded but the man refused help.

A caller reported his dog had broken its chain and was loose in the area of 1 Mile Haines Highway.

A caller reported his vehicle was damaged by an unidentified vehicle while it was parked at the library.

Wednesday, May 7

A parent called to report a minor child had left a View Street residence without permission. The parent called back to say the minor had returned home.

A caller reported an unattended dog near the clinic. HARK was advised.

A caller reported an unauthorized burn on Deishu Drive. The fire department was advised.

An out-of-town caller asked for help locating an overdue relative. Dispatch located the relative with help from the U.S. Border Patrol.

A person reported a bicycle stolen from a trailer on Small Tracts Road.

A caller reported an injured raven on Second Avenue. An American Bald Eagle Foundation employee responded.

A person turned in a backpack found on Front Street. Dispatch located the owner, who claimed the bag.

A child pulled the fire alarm at the library.

Tuesday, May 6

A Fort Seward resident asked for help from police after locking herself out of her apartment.

Dispatch received eight canine calls and 10 medical calls.
