Hypnotist to perform at benefit June 12
Hypnotist and comedian "JayDee" is bringing his "clean and classy" hypnotism show to the Chilkat Center at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 12.
The show is sponsored by Lynn Canal Community Players. Proceeds from the show will go toward technical upgrades of the Chilkat Center auditorium.
Sue Waterhouse, who is organizing the event, said she was trying to decide what kind of fundraiser to hold and knew she wanted to do "something different." Waterhouse recalled attending a show in Florida with her 82-year-old mother, who volunteered to be hypnotized.
"It's not like people will be goaded into revealing their deepest, darkest secrets. They will do silly things like walk like a duck," Waterhouse said.
JayDee's website assures people are never forced to volunteer. "The person being hypnotized gives control over to the hypnotist and because it is a matter of people giving control away, he treats his volunteers with dignity and respect."
JayDee also bills the PG-related show as "clean and classy," so parents can bring their children.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students (under 18) and seniors (over 65). They are available at the Babbling Book. Tickets are $20 at the door. A drawing for two free tickets is set up at the Haines bank.
