If we want to keep bears out of our garbage and in the rivers where tourists can get their bear fix, Fish and Game would be wise to include bear needs in their fish management decisions. Equally important: Borough enforcement of bear attractant ordinances and tightening requirements where there are loopholes. Fruit trees in electric fences, bear-proof dumpsters, securing home garbage in buildings and a solid waste management plan that takes bear behavior into consideration.
