Congratulations to Southeast Alaska Backcountry Adventures for working hard to bring the Freeride World Tour (FWT) competition to Haines this coming winter. Running March 14-22, the FWT will be showcasing some of the top men and women riders in the world in both skiing and snowboarding competitions. This is a tremendous opportunity for Haines to receive wonderful publicity and show the rest of the world just how amazing, spectacular, and wild this area is. I feel as a community we should fully support the FWT event by making a winter festival that could become something we build on in future years. Open the restaurants, bring artists together to display their crafts, offer other fun activities. Have a concert at the Chilkat Center, a dance at Harriett Hall. We will show the visitors, competitors, coordinators and those watching through the media just how magical Haines is, and have them come back again and again.
