Dalton Huston, 23, pleaded guilty on March 31 to attempted first-degree burglary on Nov. 25, 2014. Huston broke into a woman’s home on Comstock Road and stole several hundred dollars’ worth of belongings. A juvenile also participated in the break-in. Huston was sentenced to eight months in jail, a $200 fine, three years’ probation and payment of restitution. Huston also pleaded guilty on March 31 to committing third-degree theft on June 23. Huston reported to police several paintball guns were stolen from his trailer by an “associate,” but eventually admitted the property had been taken from him as collateral for a drug debt. The paintball guns had previously been reported stolen by a business owner at 5 Mile Haines Highway. Huston was sentenced to 15 days in jail, three years’ probation and $100 in fees.
Coy Allen Taylor, 54, pleaded guilty on March 2 to committing third-degree criminal mischief on Feb. 19, 2014. A person reported he had gone to Taylor’s house and Taylor struck the windows of his vehicle with a baseball bat and hit him in the face with the bat. Police called Taylor, who said he had the right to defend his property against intruders and used the baseball bat to “run him off.” An officer responded to Taylor’s house and arrested him. Taylor was sentenced to five days in jail, payment of restitution, $100 in fees, no contact with the victim and two years’ probation.
Shaye Otton, 15, pleaded guilty on April 16 to driving without a valid operator’s license on March 16. An officer pulled over Otton, knowing she was only 15. Otton admitted she didn’t have a valid operator’s license. Otton was sentenced to a $100 fine, eight hours of community service, six months’ probation and to follow youth curfew.
Bryan Hinderberger, 28, pleaded guilty on March 3 to unlawful methods of taking game on Aug. 23, 2014. Troopers found Hinderberger used radio communications between spotter and hunter to position the hunter in the best position to intercept and harvest a goat while on Mount Sinclair. Hinderberger was sentenced to a $300 fine, a $10 fee, payment of restitution, forfeiture of the goat head and hide, and 40 hours of community service.
Knute John Phillips, 18, pleaded guilty on Feb. 17 to driving without a valid operator’s license on Oct. 14, 2014. A trooper stopped Phillips for speeding near 3 Mile Mud Bay Road. Phillips admitted to driving without a valid operator’s license. Phillips was sentenced to one year probation, a $500 fine and a $50 fee.
Christopher David Lee Bragg, 20, pleaded guilty Jan. 15 to attempted second-degree sexual abuse of a minor on Feb. 10, 2014. A Juneau grand jury indicted Bragg for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in Haines. The girl’s father found out and reported the incident to police. Bragg was sentenced to two years in jail, five years’ probation and registration as a sex offender for 15 years.
