A gull snatches a eulachon Wednesday on the Chilkoot River above the Fish and Game weir. Volumes of fish in the river were enough to attract dipnet fishermen there. Eulachon arrived on the Chilkoot about a week ago, then appeared to subside. Swarms of thousands of seagulls hovered above Chilkat River this week, heralding the return of eulachon there, but most of the fish appeared to be on the river's west side. Ron Horn photo.
