Monday, September 5

A caller in the Second and Main area reported a man in front of a local business yelling and screaming at a female subject. Officers advised and made contact.

A brief power outage occurred in the town site area due to a transformer malfunction in the area of Second and Dalton. AP&T advised.

An employee of a local business reported that sometime the previous day unknown persons gained entry to the building and stole several items.

HBPD dispatch received multiple calls in the area of Main Street reporting a male subject walking along and screaming at passing citizens. HBPD officers made contact with subject.

Sunday, September 4

A resident of a Second Avenue apartment complex reported being assaulted by a neighboring apartment dweller while visiting their residence. After speaking with an HBPD officer, the victim decided not to press charges. A caller reported a homeless man camping in the woods near Second Avenue. HBPD responded, but the man was gone on arrival. A caller requested information regarding an incident from the previous day that was determined to be under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Coast Guard. The caller was given contact information for the Coast Guard.

Alaska state troopers turned in a wallet and cell phone found on a hiking trail. The items were later claimed by the owner after being contacted by a dispatcher.

A caller reported hearing gunshots in the Small Tracts Road area. HBPD responded to the area, but could not locate the source of the shots, which had stopped.

Saturday, September 3

A caller reported witnessing a domestic dispute and requested a welfare check on one of the parties. HBPD responded. A caller reported a third party had informed her of a person making threats against her family via VHF radio. Alaska state troopers advised. An HBPD officer discovered an abandoned vehicle, which had apparently been in a recent accident. A case file was started.

Friday, September 2

A caller requested assistance pertaining to a civil matter. Another agency was contacted, which agreed to assist the caller.

A resident of a Second Avenue apartment complex reported disorderly conduct from another resident. Information was logged.

A subpoena was received from the Yakutat police to be served on a Haines resident. A 911 call was received from a hiker in the Juneau Borough reporting one in his party had sustained a possible broken ankle. State troopers started a search-and-rescue rescue effort.

A caller dialed 911 to report her controlled burn on Dalton Street. She was advised to report future controlled burns to 766-2121.

A caller reported a dead cat in the roadway on the Haines Highway. HBPD responded and removed the feline.

A caller reported a neighbor shooting rifles at 33 Mile Haines Highway. Troopers advised.

Thursday, September 1

A caller requested a welfare check on a Second Avenue resident. HBPD made contact with the resident, who was fine.

A caller reported excessive smoke from a control burn on Jones Point Road, and then called back to report the excessive smoke had decreased.

A summons was received from the municipal court to be served on a Haines resident.

A caller reported a bicycle he believed may have been stolen was in the bushes near the Battery Point trailhead. No reports of a missing bicycle matching the description had been received.

A caller requested a welfare check on a relative with health problems. The welfare check was conducted, and the relative was fine.

A Main Street business reported an employee was verbally threatened by a customer. The business was advised they could trespass the customer from the business, or obtain a protective order.

A resident of Mud Bay Road requested a no trespass order be served on a relative. The relative was contacted and advised.

Wednesday, August 31

A 911 call was received from a caller in the area of Lookout Park. The caller reported a subject who had fallen and may have sustained injuries. The patient refused an ambulance.

A 911 hang-up call was received from an anonymous caller in the Haines area. Dispatch was unable to complete a ring-back on the caller.

HBPD received a summons to court to serve on a resident of the Haines area.

A 911 hang-up call was received. Dispatch re-contacted, and caller said there was no emergency and was able to speak freely.

Tuesday, August 30

A 911 call was answered and caller disconnected. Dispatch re-contacted caller who then advised they meant to dial 411.

A caller reported an incident which involved sending money to an anonymous subject to obtain property whilst in a foreign country. Caller spoke to an officer who advised this was a civil matter to be handled in court.

A caller in the area of Third Avenue reported a vehicle parked in an intersection. An officer observed the vehicle to be parked legally.

A 911 call was answered and dispatch observed sounds of kids yelling on the other line. Dispatch contacted the caller, who stated there was no emergency and they were able to speak freely. An officer made contact with the subject in the area of Tlingit Park, where the caller said they will attempt to carry their phone in a way so it doesn’t accidentally dial 911.

A citizen came to HBPD to say their missing property was returned regarding an ongoing theft investigation that occurred in the area of Battle Road on August 14. Follow-up information added to case. HBPD assisted Alaska state troopers with arresting a man shooting at a vehicle in the area of 33 Mile Haines Highway.
