The Haines Borough Assembly unanimously decided Tuesday to create a citizens working group to study whether any garbage issues need to be tackled.

The borough plans to advertise for people to join the working group. The assembly set a tentative March 1, 2017 deadline for the committee to make any recommendations.

The assembly’s commerce committee recommended that such a task force be set up. The task force might explore the idea of requiring all borough homes and businesses to have their trash picked up, which would include mandatory fees.
