Whitehorse players fill weekend tournament

The Haines Bridge Club hosted Southeast Alaska’s sectional bridge tournament at the American Bald Eagle Foundation Thursday through Sunday.

About 65 players competed, and Haines residents Sally and Bob Lix, Roger Schnabel and Fred Shields, Rob Miller and sister Connie Sayler finished in the top 12 players after four days of competition.

Tournament chair Sally Lix said more than half of participants were from Whitehorse, Y.T., or Juneau this year, doubling participation from last year.

Whitehorse players are hoping to soon start their own bridge chapter, Lix said.

Ten Haines players also hosted a prime rib and halibut dinner Saturday for over 75 players and guests.
