Elections end on election day
August 3, 2017
Haines residents: First and foremost, please vote in the Aug. 15 recall election of our borough assembly members. Let your voice be heard, whatever way you lean.
Personally, I think elections should end on Election Day. People learn from making minor mistakes while serving in any community capacity, just as in daily life. Even if the allegations of code violations by assembly members are true, awareness has been heightened and these elected representatives will be even more conscientiously making decisions and performing duties that keep our municipality running.
Elevating your disagreements and complaints about assembly members’ minor potential infractions to a recall election is a waste of limited borough resources, and it detracts from the real community work at hand. It’s really too bad Haines is showing its negative side so publicly.
Please consider the impact of your vote. Support local citizens who volunteer their time and energy on our borough assembly to make this town a quality place to live.
