Recall, refresh community trust

August 10, 2017

I would say that without arguing points, the merit of the recall, or other subjective points, one thing is certain looking at presented facts, this recall had merit in order to get this far. Recall is happening.

My approach to this is that these individuals have brought a level of distrust into the community that has prompted these efforts. However, while they sit in office they cannot be held accountable or even have a chance to regain the trust of the voter. If these individuals are concerned about transparency, fairness, and good government they would step down, come clean, and run again.

Since they have not resigned, I suggest that we recall and make them run on a platform, let them explain their mistakes and earn the trust of the community again. I realize that there are some who still have the faith that these elected officials belong in office, but I know there are many who question their cast vote for them today.

By recalling all three, we would be looking at electing six new assembly members this fall. I believe this would give the community an opportunity to adjust, regroup, and hopefully heal some of the mistrust and angst that has plagued this assembly.

I have to say that the number of new and quality people that stepped up like Sean Maidy and Stephanie Scott to fill vacancies has been refreshing and brings hope that we can fix this. Recall to Re-elect!
