Confront prejudice in daily encounters
June 4, 2020
If you hear someone casually using derogatory or devising language toward a gender, race, sexual orientation or religion just do the hard thing, tell them to stop, walk up to them and tell them to please stop. Tell them that kind of language is not tolerated here and if they continue down that path they will only further isolate themselves from this community. It is seriously embarrassing. If you have friends that casually speak this way and you find that you casually image-imitate each other and you just accept it because you don’t want to lose your friends then I suggest you challenge them and yourself. There is nothing wrong with a confrontation as long as thoughtful words are spoken and violence is tempered.
Ask yourself the hard questions and I think you will be able to find those answers and if you can’t just do your best to not scapegoat an entire group of people. It’s 2020 and if you haven’t realized it yet race, gender, sexuality, and religion are fluid and yes we are all human and therefore the same. You can turn anything beautiful into a disgusting monster just by eating it the wrong way so handle every morsel of beauty in this world with the delicacy it deserves.
