CARES Act funds CIV household grants

August 20, 2020

The Chilkat Indian Village (CIV) is using federal CARES Act dollars to fund household grants for year-round Klukwan residents and tribal members who live within 70 miles of the village, located on the shores of the Chilkat River near 21 Mile Haines Highway.

Each household can request up to $2,000 in rent, utility, mortgage or food assistance to help offset economic damage suffered due to COVID-19. The grant money will be paid directly to vendors, rather than individual applicants.

The application period closed Aug. 12. By press time, tribal council president Kimberley Strong hadn’t responded to requests for comment.

A notice on the CIV website says, “please allow adequate time for processing (applications).” Those with questions can contact eoc@chilkat-nsn.gov or (907) 767-5505 ext. 228.
