Take time to think
December 16, 2021
The only people who should be cancelled are the perpetually aggrieved. Much of our public (and private) discourse is so over-analyzed that people are becoming afraid to speak their minds. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects ALL speech, whether friendly or not. Americans have the right to speak their minds as they see fit. This freedom of speech has consequences, however. Shout “fire” in a crowded theater (when there is no fire) and you could likely be arrested for creating a public danger. Insult an Irishman’s mother, and you may very well get punched in the face. We certainly know how Mr. Holle feels about Liz Cornejo after his unfortunate outburst, but this is no reason to ruin him. Personal attacks and emotionally charged outbursts have no place in the free and open exchange of ideas. I think we could all take heed of Kyle’s advice and take a little time to think about what we say, where we say it and to whom.
