I would like the Borough, Ports and Harbors Committee, Planning Commission, Yukon mines, Chamber of Commerce, and any other related groups to know that it’s not just a handful of “environmentalists” who are concerned about an ore transport corridor running through our community.
I’ve talked to parents, business owners, commercial fishermen/women, educators, health professionals, Canadian friends and summer visitors who don’t think it’s a good idea to turn our main road/highway into a haul route for ore concentrate - especially without sufficient public process.
Unfortunately, a couple of compensatory information sessions run by the Chamber of Commerce don’t really cut it. This town-altering decision must include everyone in our community - it’s the least we could do for the future of Haines.”
