The pool's an essential service
April 28, 2022
My family moved here 31 years ago from California to help better our family situation and improve our quality of life. When we arrived, we had practically nothing and knew nobody.
Having places to go like the swimming pool made it easier for me to meet new people and to interact with kids in all different groups and income brackets. For $1.50, it was one of the only things we kids could afford to do. Now I’m a stay-at-home mom who takes care of six kids and the pool is just as important to me today.
Having access to places where my kids can learn independence while knowing they’re still watched and safe is important to me. When my kids return home they are tired and ready to eat dinner and relax, making for a much happier and healthier atmosphere at home.
During COVID, things were taken away from us and our kids’ lives were tossed upside down in so many different ways. I strongly feel that adding the pool back during summer months would be moving forward, adding back to the quality of the community. We also have to acknowledge that the Haines is a rainforest and we are not guaranteed sunny days and bear-free fun. Having a place than can provide safety and supervision for kids is such a relief. The pool benefits our community in so many different ways.
