Better things to debate than weddings

June 16, 2022

First, I want to congratulate you, our CVN’s editor, on your recent wedding! I am glad you had a beautiful place to host it and I wish you and your family all the best! The service you provide our community is invaluable for the news, and also for the forum to speak out and express our opinions. Some of us don’t do social media.

Second, I have no ill feelings for those who have a different idea than mine about whether weddings and events should occur in our neighborhood, and I hope they don’t hold anything against me. We could agree to differ and accept that that is inevitable in life, even amongst friends. But it seems to me that while the whole world is blowing up and going crazy (Ukraine, Uvalde and all the other places of mass shootings in America, corruption, famine, discrimination, and any number of other pressing issues all over the world) we in Haines, Alaska, and in Mud Bay in particular, are fussing about whether or not we should allow weddings in our beautiful location. I don’t even really care one way or the other if there are or are not events in my neighborhood. It just seems petty to be fussing over it, that’s all. Seems there might be better ways to spend our energies.
