As I read an article in the CVN concerning local property tax rates, I found it to be enlightening (educational). However, I did note that there was an error of omission in the discussion of property tax exemptions for seniors. It is true that there exists a property tax exemption of $155,000 for seniors. However, there is a caveat which affects senior snowbirds. That caveat is that one must qualify for the State of Alaska PFD before becoming eligible for the property tax exemption, for which many snowbirds cannot legally qualify.
