The state filed four additional felony assault charges Dec. 8 against a man arrested after attacking a Mud Bay neighbor Nov. 29.

The man originally was charged with one count of felony assault and three misdemeanors, including assault and trespassing. After an indictment in the Juneau superior court, the defendant now faces a total of eight felony assault charges.

Haines Police said the man attacked a neighbor with a cordless Dewalt drill and that the victim experienced symptoms consistent with a heart attack. He was subsequently treated at the Haines clinic and medevacked to Anchorage.

The CVN last week reported the suspect told police the victim had confronted him with a stick, according to the police report. But the victim this week told the CVN that wasn’t true and that he hadn’t been holding a stick prior to the attack.

A witness told police the suspect jumped on top of the victim and repeatedly struck him, according to the police report and charging documents. The two parties had been engaged in a property ownership dispute for several months.
