CVCF helps keep Tlingit language alive
January 19, 2023
Gunalcheìesh ho ho (thank you very much) to the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation for providing funds to purchase Tlingit language textbooks for the Tlingit Language class. Forty-five participants – 20 children and 25 adults – have benefited from your generosity. The course is taught by Marsha Hotch twice a week for families with children of all ages. This first cohort will stay together for three years in order to reach a basic level of fluency in Tlingit. (In the fall of 2023, a second cohort will start learning the language. For those interested in being part of the second group of language learners, please contact Chilkoot Indian Association at 766-2323 and leave your name and contact information.) The language books make it much easier for students to study and learn during the course. Many thanks for the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation’s generosity. We live in an amazing community.
