LCCP resumes River Talk

January 19, 2023

River Talk resumes Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Chilkat Center and continues monthly through April.

The monthly winter and spring storytelling event, sponsored by Lynn Canal Community Players, includes seven storytellers each telling 7-minute stories at 7 p.m. based on various themes. Next week’s theme is “Tripping.” Tickets cost $7.

“River Talk is a most enjoyable and entertaining way to spend a winter’s evening,” LCCP board member Annette Smith said. “The Chilkat Center Lobby is made over into the Chilkat Chit-Chat Café.”

Smith said listeners should expect the unexpected as stories vary from the profound to the comedic.

“Last year we had CJ Jones tell a good mountain-climbing story and she came completely outfitted in cold-weather climbing gear — and an umbrella,” Smith said. “Greg Podsiki told a good one in which he engaged the audience giving feedback from cue cards he had distributed. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Beverages including wine, beer, coffee and tea will be available.

Smith said storytellers are needed for next week’s event. “Please volunteer,” she said. “Don’t wait to be asked. The themes are very broad, so just about any story can be spun to fit the theme.”

Other themes this year include “Fangs and Finns” (Feb. 16), “Backstage Stories (March 16) and “Truth or Fiction?” (April 21).
