Just wanted to add a bit of context to my quote in the CVN article from last week: I had spoken during comments at the assembly meeting urging public discourse surrounding the merits/non-merits of a Juneau Drag performance at the SEAK State Fair to remain respectful. I was hoping Haines could refrain from mischaracterizations, name calling, vilification, bullying, hate speech, threats of violence, and/or inappropriately singling out local residents based on their appearance. I also suggested that the discussion remain focused to the scope of what we are talking about - a performance by Juneau Drag. These are Alaskans, real people, verifiably not criminals, our Southeast neighbors, and professional performers who have a long & attestable reputation for putting on well attended shows throughout SEAK. I really appreciate all those who have remained civil & respectful in this conversation. I am relatively new to Haines and still figuring out how this town operates. I am especially grateful to those who have been kind regardless of where they stand on the issue. Thank you.
