A call for tiny treasures
April 20, 2023
For the Summer Reading Program this year, I am hoping to be as earth-friendly and patriotic as possible. Instead of buying tiny treasures from other countries, I would love it if people would bring in small treasures they are ready to share (like what fits in a hand) or looks-like-new children’s books that children could win by reading. In past summers, kids have won bouncy balls, yo-yos, travel souvenirs from around the world, miniature race cars, costume jewelry, and more. If anyone has something small that would work as a reading incentive for summer, just drop it off at the library by May 26.
I am grateful to Carol Waldo and her family for giving such a generous library donation of $35,000 in memory of the two children she lost. That was 23 years ago, and that’s the summer I was first hired at the library to do the Summer Reading Program. Since then, so many children have enjoyed the Summer Reading Program and more. The Waldo family started something wonderful. I look forward to many more years of inspiring children to read.
