Virtue required for self-governance
May 4, 2023
Let’s ask our Founders their perspective on our individual rights to be lewd. “No person who shall deny the being of God, or the truth of the [Christian] religion, or the divine authority of the Old or New Testaments or who shall hold religious principles incompatible with the freedom and safety of the state, shall be capable of holding any office, or place of trust or profit in the civic department, within this state.” (Original North Carolina constitution)
In 1892, the Supreme Court noted that each of the forty-four states then in the union had some type of God-centered declaration in its constitution. “Of all the positions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. ... In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these foremost props of the duties of man and citizens.” (George Washington, Farewell Address.)
I could fill this newspaper with more of the same. Kinda makes you wonder if our Communist education lied to us, doesn’t it? Are we patriotic Americans or its unwitting destroyers?
