The Haines Borough Planning Commission wields significant power over the future of our community and therefore needs to be an elected body. Too often, individuals who failed by wide margins to win elected seats on the Assembly have received political appointments to the Commission. At this point the Commission is so politically unbalanced it is embarrassing; decisions are routinely made on ideology rather than law, code, precedent, or at the very least, common sense and courtesy.

Please vote in the ongoing special election to change our Charter so that we can vote for Planning Commission members, who will be more responsive and responsible to the majority of the community. Early voting has begun at the Borough office.
