Michael Flegel will be leading Fourth of July games at Tlingit Park on Tuesday.

The idea came from workers at the Haines branch of First National Bank of Alaska, where Michael’s father Dick Flegel worked as manager for decades and volunteered about 40 years as Fourth of July games host at Tlingit Park.

Dick Flegel died in January.

Michael Flegel is a representative for companies that supply the aerospace industry and lives in Frisco, Texas.

Michael’s mom Carol Flegel said this week she was glad to see her son fill the role that his father served, merry-making on the Fourth. “One way or another, we’re going to make it happen.”

Carol reflected on her late husband’s long tenure. “It was quite a run.”
