A backhoe lowers the beams from the former Tesoro gas station on Second Avenue on Monday, Sept. 25. Property owner Gregg Richmond said he isn't sure what the site will become. The owners are working on closing down the fuel tank, after contaminated soil was found at the site earlier this year. Curtis Kiesel, who oversees the underground storage tank section of the Department of Environmental Conservation, said that an interim report on the contamination submitted on Aug. 28 was deficient, since the owners hadn't sampled soil from the area of the fuel pumps and the pipes leading to the tank. Kiesel said he's awaiting an answer from the owners. He said the agency won't fine the owners because of the deficient report.
